Comedy Central Gives Broad City a Third Season

broad-cityComedy Central has renewed emerging hit series “Broad City” for a third season, just hours before the show’s sophomore turn on the network is set to debut.

The Viacom-owned outlet said it would pick up ten more episodes of the show, an odd-couple comedy about two best friends navigating their early 20s in New York despite less-than-auspicious circumstances. The second season is slated to return on the network with new episodes this evening at 10:30 p.m. Eastern.

Comedy Central said “Broad City” was the number one show in cable in its time slot among men between 18 and 34 during its first season on the air, and also the number-one new comedy on cable in 2014 among the same demographic. “Broad City” is created by stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, who executive produce along with Amy Poehler, 3 Arts’ Dave Becky, Sam Saifer and Tony Hernandez. The show is, co-executive produced by Eric Slovin.

The network’s interest in additional seasons of the series shows its interest in developing female talent as well as male. While Comedy Central’s core demographic is young men, the network has made strides in series with women at the center, including “Inside Amy Schumer,” which has won critical plaudits.
