20th Century Fox has released the first photo from Steven Spielberg’s new film adaptation of iconic musical West Side Story with Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler as star-crossed young lovers Tony and Maria.
The film follows rival street gangs in 1950s New York City and is being adapted for the screen from the original 1957 Broadway musical by Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. Tony winner Justin Peck will choreograph the musical numbers in the new film.
Spielberg just began production on the film which boasts a script by Tony Kushner. Spielberg also produces along with Kevin McCollum and Kristie Macosko Krieger.
West Side Story” opens on December 18th 2020.
