A welcome return to India is shown in the new trailer for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. New cast member Richard Gere is set to shake up the dynamic of the hotel’s guests returning from the first film.
The Fox Searchlight film is based around Dev Patel’s character Sonny’s attempts to create the second in what he hopes will become a chain of hotels for British retirees, with Muriel (Dame Maggie Smith) as the new co-manager of the hotel.
Meanwhile, Evelyn (Dame Judi Dench) and Douglas (Bill Nighy) negotiate their relationship, as do Norman (Ronald Pickup) and Carol (Diana Hardcastle). More romance is also in the air as Sonny’s marriage to Sunaina (Tena Desae) is in the works.
Celia Imrie, Lillete Dubey and Penelope Wilton will be returning to their roles as well, and a pair of new characters are joining, played by David Strathairn and Tamsin Greig. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel opens on February 27 in the UK and on March 6 in the US.
