Check Out Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

The first issue of Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. hits shelves Dec. 31, and looks to bring Agent Phil Coulson and the small-screen gang from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into the official Marvel Comics universe. To be clear: This will be the comic universe version of the characters, not a tie-in comic for the television series, so the team will be inspired by the show but not beholden to it — much as the Avengers films are inspired by the comics but not a slavish adaptation.

The best part? This means Coulson and his team will be able to cross over with virtually any character in the Marvel stable. From team-ups with the Avengers to hanging out with the X-Men and Spider-Man, nothing is off the table. But, as fans of the show know, this transition also opens up some awkward questions about Skye’s real identity. But we digress.

Writer Mark Waid (Daredevil) and a revolving cast of artists are signed on to lead the book, which will kind of follow the style of a television show, with most arcs consisting of 1-2 issue standalone stories involving the team.
