CBS TV Studios is in final negotiations to adapt ousted FBI director James Comey’s best-selling memoir A Higher Loyalty into a limited series for television.

Comey served as director of the FBI from 2013 to 2017, appointed to the post by President Barack Obama, and previously served as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. deputy attorney general in the administration of President George W. Bush.

He prosecuted mafia members and Martha Stewart, changed the Bush administration’s policies on torture and surveillance, oversaw the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation and investigated ties between the Trump 2016 election campaign and Russia when Trump fired him last year. Known for his political independence, veterans of the FBI were shocked at his dismissal.

Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) is attached to pen the script and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Discovery) and Shane Salerno are slated to executive produce. The project landed with the producers with a sizeable series commitment penalty, and no outlet for the final product has yet been determined.
