Microsoft will no longer offer glossy-bodied Xbox 360 game consoles starting this fall, the company’s Xbox Live communications director Larry Hryb said this weekened. All will instead sport a matte black finish, not unlike the current 4GB Xbox 360 Arcade model. The transition will start soon, with all Xbox 360 S consoles coming to stores over the next few weeks.
Only limited-edition consoles will continue to have a gloss finish, including the upcoming Gears of War 3 and Kinect Star Wars editions, though they won’t be black. Whether accessories such as the Kinect follow suit and get a matte body to match isn’t known but is likely.
