Buffalo Technology is making sure all demographics are covered with the newly released LinkStation 441D/441DE. Buffalo’s LinkStation product family is a series of network attached storage (NAS) devices designed specifically for home offices and small businesses.  One of its key selling points is remote data management.

According to Julia Molzen, Senior Manager of Marketing & PR of Buffalo Technology, “Storing files in third party data centers and paying annual fees can be unsustainable for small businesses. The LinkStation 441 offers Buffalo’s Private Cloud solution, which ensures users’ privacy is protected in the physical location of the device, not off-site.”

The LinkStation 441DE offers four HDD bays. However, the unit comes with three USB ports in total (two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0) that can be used to expand maximum capacity, as well as back up data. LinkStation 441 supports RAID 0/1/5/10, as well as a JBOD configuration. The unit offers 100 Mb/s transfer speeds, which would be strong performance for a small business device.

The 441DE is just a NAS enclosure; there are four other options if you don’t already have your own hard drives. The LinkStation 441D offers 4, 8, 12, and 16 TB capacities. These are 4x 1TB, 2TB, 3TB, and 4TB drive configurations, respectively.

The real draw of the LinkStation 441 line is not the storage, it’s the remote management. Using Buffalo’s WebAccess service, users can remotely access data stored on the Linkstation 441. WebAccess is compatible with Windows 8, Windows Phone 7/8, iOS, and Android. There are also restrictive access controls that be set at a group or user level.

There is also a download management option utilizing the built-in BitTorrent client. However, this is only available for use with Android devices.
