The Bluetooth Special Interest Group today announced Bluetooth 5, the next version of Bluetooth scheduled to launch late this year or early next year.
The Bluetooth SIG says Bluetooth 5 quadruples the available range, doubles the speed, and improves data broadcasting capacity by 800%.
This improved capacity will help Bluetooth “transmit richer, more intelligent data” to connected devices, such as beacons and Internet of Things products. Importantly, Bluetooth 5 will allow devices to connect and share information without pairing via specific applications.
The Bluetooth SIG believes Bluetooth 5 will help companies bring richer, more capable Bluetooth products to the wearables, home automation, industrial, commercial, and enterprise markets.
