Bethesda Reveals Sony Won’t Allow Fallout 4 Mods on PS4

Over a year ago, Bethesda made it clear that they intended to bring full mod support to Fallout 4 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the feature making its way to the Microsoft console a few months ago. Since then, the publisher has been very vocal about their intent to bring the feature to PlayStation 4 and has now revealed that Sony will not allow them to enable it as it currently exists.

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4,” the company wrote in a short post. “Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

“Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.”

Ironically, Sony recently announced their PlayStation 4 Pro and boasted “all PS4 owners continue to benefit from having the best place to play.”

Fallout 4 is available now with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition debuting on October 28, which you can pre-order by clicking here.
