BBC Launches Olympic Apps

As expected, the BBC has launched several mobile apps that will offer live streams from the London 2012 Olympic Games. Available for both iOS and Android the apps will mirror the information and streaming content offered by the BBC website to UK-based users throughout the summer events.

Individual pages for athletes, countries, and sports will give statistics and news on individual event performances, medal tallies, and news stories. Live minute-by-minute text commentary will cover all sporting events represented at the games, supplementing the 24 live feeds that the apps, website, and digital television broadcasts all will receive. An offline viewing mode is also provided.

NBC has unveiled its own pair of apps for the games. One is intended as a “second screen,” offering news and results, while the other will provide live streams. Further expanding digital reach, YouTube will also stream live feeds to countries without an official Olympic broadcaster
