ARM has unveiled a suite of new processor designs for high-end phones. The new Cortex-A77 CPU promises 20% better performance than the A76 it replaces.

The A76 architecture is used in Qualcomm’s current top-end chip, the Snapdragon 855. Although ARM does not make chips itself, ARM’s designs form the basis for nearly all processors used in phones, including those from Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek, Huawei, and Samsung.

The A77 is accompanied by the new Mali-G77 GPU, which offers 40% better graphics performance compared to the existing Mali-G76 GPU, and 60% better performance in machine learning (ML) applications.
