Another Friend Finder Joins the Mix, Mobya’s JoinMe

Mobya launches JoinMe, the company’s first app for the iPhone. JoinMe allows two people to localize each other very simply. You just have to send a request to a friend and you can see a graphic visualization of your distance apart and moving speed.

JoinMe is an app intended to be useful and practical but also fun. It can be handy in many situations: when waiting for a friend at the mall, when driving in separate cars or even to know how far from home your kids are. The app indicates the speed of the person you’re tracking and shows their distance on a radar.

JoinMe is one of the first apps to use the new Apple feature: notification. With it, you no longer need to have the app open to receive a localization request: a notification similar to a text message will alert you automatically.

Unlike other friend localization applications–and there are quite a few now–JoinMe takes into consideration your privacy. The localization information is only shared with approval and for specific a period of time. In fact as soon as one of the two people disconnects information in no longer transmitted. “We have designed JoinMe to be simple to use and respectful of your privacy because it turns out that very few people want to share their position with their friends at all times,” says Mathieu Vaidis, co-founder of mobya.

The app is available free for a limited time on the Apple App Store. You need two iPhones to use JoinMe.
