Android 4.0 Comes to the Xperia P

It may be a little delayed from its promised spring release date, but the software update has now become available to download for some Xperia P smartphones. The delivery method is a little more complicated than most, however, as the software needs to be downloaded using the PC Companion software on Windows PCs or Bridge for Mac and then synced onto the phone. The update also brings with it some Sony-specific features.

They include Walkman, Album, and Movies. The former replaces the media player with a long-time Sony trademark, with Album taking care of all the photos on the device. Movies will host all the movies and pair information such as the cast and summary.

Battery life is also extended thanks to a new standby mode that powers off some functions, thereby extending the time by fourfold under ideal conditions, Sony said. Otherwise new are resizable widgets and an improved lockscreen.

The update will arrive on all Xperia P handsets at the various providers around the world over the next few weeks. Up next to get Android 4.0 are the Xperia U, Xperia go and Xperia sola, though timelines haven’t yet been revealed.
