Amazon Expands Fire Phone into Europe – Cuts Price to 99 Cents in the United States

Amazon has lowered the cost of the Fire Phone in the United States, down to 99 cents on a two-year contract. At the same time, the retailer revealed it is bringing the Fire Phone to Europe, with the United Kingdom and Germany set to be the first markets on the continent to receive the device at the end of this month.

It is unclear why the price of the Fire Phone has been cut from the $199 cost it had at launch in June, though low sales may have been a factor. According to one report in late August, it is estimated that Amazon sold fewer than 35,000 Fire Phones within the first 20 days of sale, with the figure unlikely to have dramatically increased since then.

AT&T continues to be the exclusive carrier for the device in the United States, with customers also receiving 12 months of Amazon Prime.
