All Six Star Wars Movies Coming to Netflix

Netflix’s competitors have taken jabs at the popular streaming service over the past few weeks, but it might be Netflix that has the last laugh. As we approach the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it sounds like Disney wants to put the first six Star Wars films on the streaming service. That would be a first for Star Wars, and a huge coup for Netflix. No better way to prepare for a new film than to have a marathon of the original trilogies.

Now, this is all based on speculation, but bear with us. Extreamist found landing pages for the first six movies buried in the dark corners of Netflix—The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Those don’t just show up without someone having clear intentions for them. Either that or someone at Netflix is trolling the Internet.

Nothing is available at the landing pages just yet, but it’s clear Netflix has something planned. When the movies will actually be made available is anyone’s guess. But with The Force Awakens set for a December release, we’re thinking Disney wants to get these up sooner rather than later. It’s usually about this time each month Netflix releases the list of movies and TV shows being added to the service the following month, so we’ll see if Star Wars is on the list when that hits.

If you haven’t seen a single Star Wars movie until now, well, now’s the perfect time to get caught up—assuming the movies do get added to Netflix, that is. Without knowing too much about what’s happening, it’s unclear if Netflix gets exclusive dibs on streaming rights, or if other streaming services like Amazon Prime will join the party. We’ll let you know as soon as something becomes official.
