Rogue Amoeba has released version 4.5 to make it easier to have complete audio transmission control in your hands and distribute audio around your house.
Airfoil 4.5 offers several major new features:
- Receive Audio Directly From Any iOS Device
It’s now possible to send audio from almost any audio app on the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, right to your Mac. By using the AirPlay functionality that’s part of iOS, users can simply select Airfoil Speakers as the output to hear audio out through their computers.
Receive Audio Directly From iTunes
You can also send audio directly from any copy of iTunes (running on Mac OS X or Windows), right to Airfoil Speakers. - Full Support for New AirPlay Receivers
Last year Apple licensed AirPlay technology to many 3rd parties, and this year those devices are starting to show up in force. Made from JBL, Denon, iHome and many others, Airfoil 4.5 now fully supports sending any audio on your Mac to these new devices. - Improved Remote Control
Version 4 introduced Airfoil Speakers’ ability to control remote audio sources, making it possible to pause playback, or skip tracks, from across the room or across the house. Newly-supported remote sources in version 4.5 include Spotify, Rdio, and Radium. In addition to playback control, useful metadata about the audio being played is also shown, including track information and album artwork when available.
