Acer announced yesterday that it was releasing its latest generation of TravelMate ultrabooks to the US and Canada marketplace this month. These two TravelMate Ultrabooks are siblings in name only and offer options based on how you like to work.

The 14-inch TravelMate P645 is powered by an Intel Haswell processor and is available with either the Intel Core i5 or i7 CPU. The 4th generation processor reduces power consumption while increasing performance by up to 15 percent. This gives this model an estimated battery life of up to 8 hours, depending on use. The ultrabook weighs in at about 3.31 pounds and is .81 inches thick.

The display measures 14 inches and is available in HD and full HD resolutions. Both displays are LED-backlit and provide wide angle viewing of up to 170 degrees and anti-glare technology. The full HD has a dedicated AMD Radeon HD 8750m graphics processor with 2GB DDR3 VRAM. It uses IPS technology and has 1920×1080 resolution. The HD resolution is 1366×768 supported by an Intel HD graphics 5000/400. If there’s a need for more display space, two additional displays are supported.

The user can connect to local Wi-Fi using the P645’s 802.1/b/g/n wireless capabilities and it comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity as well. For business calls and online conferences the TravelMate P645 includes a 720p webcam, dual microphones, jacks for headphone and microphone, and a mute key. Acer includes its “Purified Voice” feature designed to reduce background sound when hashing out those important deals online.

The redesigned chiclet keyboard is backlit so users don’t have to type in the dark (great if you’re not a touch typist) and is spill resistant (great for use at the local coffee shop or on bumpy planes).

Acer offers a few options that include a docking station that comes with all the necessary ports you’d need for office or home use (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and Display port, DVI, HDMI, and VGA.) There are also some more sophisticated security tools available that include a biometric fingerprint reader, a face login feature, and for physical security, a Kensington lock to secure the ultrabook to a desk.

The Acer TravelMate P645 ultrabooks will be available sometime this month at a starting price of $949.00 in the US and $899.99 (Canadian) in Canada.

Acer’s X313 is a convertible ultrabook that transforms into tablet-mode so the user can switch between using the 11.6 inch IPS touch screen and the cradle and separate keyboard. This ultrabook has a battery life of up to six hours and weighs in at about 1.74 pounds. For quick access to your apps and data, it features Acer Instant On. The chiclet keyboard is built into the cover and has an accompanying stylus that also fits in the cover for pen-based input.

The X313 is powered by an Intel Core i5, and includes Intel HD Graphics 4000 with 128 MB of dedicated memory, 4GB SDRAM, AND 120GB SSD storage. Like its cousin the P645, it allows for wide viewing angles of up to 170 degrees. The display resolution is 1366 x 768 with an integrated 10-point multi-touch technology. The X313 comes equipped with two stereo speakers with Dolby Home Theater V4 audio enhancement for high quality audio. An external display can be connected through an HDMI port for sharing audio and video.

There are two built-in webcams, a 5MP 1080p HD camera on the back for high quality digital image captures and an Acer Crystal Eye 720p HD webcam on the front for online video calls. It connects to the rest of the world through an Acer InviLink Npify 802.11/a/b/g/n wireless capability and had Bluetooth 4.0 capability. It also comes with a USB 3.0 port for attaching other devices.

The Acer TravelMate X313 convertible ultrabook ultrabooks will be available sometime this month at a starting price of $949.00 in the US and $949.99 (Canadian) in Canada.

Both devices come with a standard two-year parts and labor warranty. Acer includes its ProShield Manager tools to manage basic security and help prevent unauthorized access for both devices. Users can use the included Personal Secure Drive software to store and encrypt data.

These two machines are also IT friendly and include Acer’s Office Manager that allows IT shops to help manage the ultrabooks’ security, enforce policies, and monitor and control the devices.
