Acer is looking towards updating its Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet, within months of launching the original version. The new model of tablet will apparently be thinner and lighter than the current model, and it is rumored that the company will also be replacing the disappointing display following complaints by customers and device reviewers

An Acer spokesperson speaking to Tweakers claims that there’s only a small amount of stock of the original 8.1-inch tablet, and confirmed the light and weight changes. While the display isn’t mentioned by the company, Tablet Guide believes that the display will be replaced with an IPS model instead of the TN-LCD version used in the tablet. A change in the screen would not only affect the weight of the tablet, but also potentially improve its viewing angles, something which came under fire in blog reviews.

The new model is said to be coming out in September. The current version, using an Intel Atom 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM, is currently on sale for $380.
