Acer Iconia Tab A100 Due by May

Acer’s Iconia Tab A100 may finally be getting close to a launch in the US. Part builders said Wednesday that the smaller Android 3.0 slate would launch in late April or May. The design has the same Tegra 2 processor and dual cameras as the 10-inch A500 but both a lower resolution 1024×600 screen and a smaller 8GB of storage.

The same sources behind narrowed timeframe also revealed that the A100 was designed for women. The smaller size lets users hold it only with one hand and control it entirely with the other. Acer saw this as being “more convenient” for female owners than a 10-inch tablet, which would more often need a grip with both hands.

Pricing is still an unknown. The A100 pre-order seen earlier this month had it costing the equivalent of $485 in the UK, but the Iconia Tab A500’s US launch will see the larger tablet cost $450, making a $400 or lower price more likely.
