3net Will Bring the First Ultra HD TV Show

3net has announced this week it’s ready to launch the world’s first TV series in 4K resolution (3,840×2,160 or 4,096×2,160 pixels). Called Space, the show will combine the Ultra HD content with 3D video and focus on exploration of the universe. The company calls the production of Space TotalD, as it will be broadcast in native 3D 4K, 2D 4K, 3D 2K and both 3D/2D HD formats.

The reason for this is that 4K TVs are still rare due to their cost. Sony’s 84-inch XBR costs a whopping $25,000, while LG’s same-sized set has a $20,000 price tag. Exactly when owners of such TVs, which are just shipping for the holidays, can expect to receive the 4K content from 3net and others remains to be seen, however.

3net Studios is a newly-formed production arm by the three companies that operate the joint venture: Sony, Discovery, and IMAX.

Another first from 3net is a 3D motion comic for television called Marksmen. Other 3D projects 3net is working on include Frozen In Time: Our History in 3D, Wingsuit Warrior: Jeb Corliss vs. The World and Daydream.
