YouTube Revises Recommendations for Android and iOS Apps

YouTubeYouTube is pushing out a new version of its mobile app to Android and iOS devices with changes to the home screen.

The home section of the app offers more relevant personalized recommendations, says Google, that are generated by neural network technology. The computer-assisted curation can detect patterns in users’ watching behaviors to learn and improve as it goes.

Google says it focused on how its system recommends recently-posted videos from users’ favorite content creators. In tests, Google claims people who’ve taken the new recommendation system for a spin have spent more time watching the latest videos.

YouTube is also preparing to roll 6-second ads that cannot be skipped ahead of all videos, particularly those viewed from mobile devices.

The refreshed YouTube app is free to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store
