One of the more anticipated releases this year is the upcoming The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Special Edition, the extensive remaster of the 2011 hit RPG by Bethesda. The remaster in general appears to be pretty thorough as remasters go- it will include all the expansions and DLC in the package, it has support for mods on the console versions, and the graphics have been touched up nicely.

But in this day and age of console wars and pixel counting, the one question that is likely to, unfortunately, come to the forefront of any discourse about this game and especially its graphics is the question about its resolution. In simple words- will this game output in 1080p on PS4 and Xbox One?

First, let’s actually answer that question: yes. If Fallout 4, which was a fully ‘next gen game’ (though it didn’t look like much of a one) was running in 1080p on Xbox One and PS4, then Skyrim, a remaster of a last generation game, definitely will. This isn’t even to mention that the visual upgrades to the game, while effective, are ultimately pretty modest.
