HBO has announced that its Watchmen TV series is being reclassified from a drama series to a limited series, including for “any possible future installments”.
The shift allows the series to compete (and frankly dominate) the limited series category in TV awards through to the Emmy’s later this year. Showrunner Damon Lindelof and the network always pitched the show as self-contained rather than an ongoing story over multiple seasons.
HBO’s full statement says:
“We discussed with the producers and felt limited series was the most accurate representation of the show and any possible future installments.”
This reclassification suggests the is plan will not be proceeding on a second season.
