Warner Max Production House Formed To Make Films For HBO Max

Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO Max have formed Warner Max, a production label that will generate eight to ten mid-budget films per year for WarnerMedia’s new streaming service.

The division plans to leverage the company’s brand and talent portfolios, including DC Films, HBO original content, New Line Cinema, and Warner Animation Group. The straight-to-service movies will reportedly not affect theatrical production for either Warner Bros. Pictures or New Line.

WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey and Warner Bros. Entertainment president Ann Sarnoff spearheaded the initiative with HBO Max’s CCO Kevin Reilly and Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich sharing the greenlight responsibilities.

HBO Max will launch in May and the first Warner Max titles are expected to premiere in 2020.
