Details of the upcoming TiVo Premiere Elite DVR have leaked. According to documents filed with the FCC, the Premiere Elite will have four tuners and can operate (record or view) up to four shows simultaneously. It is THX-certified and fully compatible with 1080p/1080i video. The Premiere Elite has two terabytes of recording capacity, enough to record 300 hours of HD programming. It supports networking with other TiVo boxes for content sharing and is MoCA compatible.
The Premiere Elite requires digital cable or fiber optic (FiOS) service, a digital cable decoder, and a TiVo subscription. Unlike the Premiere and Premiere XL, the Premiere Elite does not have an analog tuner, and is not compatible with analog cable service. It will not work with an over-the-air HD antenna, AT&T U-Verse or DirecTV or other satellite services.
A broadband connection is required for the TiVo service. The Premiere Elite has one RJ45 ethernet connection and an optional TiVo wireless adapter is available for purchase separately.
Unlike the other Premiere units it will be sold direct to consumers, rather than being leased from cable providers. The company has not announced pricing. The timing of the FCC filing indicates a launch sometime this Fall.
