The Grinch Tracking For An $50M Opening – But What About Halloween?

Illumination and Universal’s animated feature adaptation The Grinch based on the Dr. Seuss children’s book, is headed for a $50 million opening when it hits November 9th pre early tracking .

Benedict Cumberbatch leads the film whose final number will likely go higher when it opens, and closer to the $55 million which the 2000 live-action adaptation starring Jim Carrey scored when it hit in mid-November of that year.

Also opening that weekend is The Girl in the Spider’s Web which is on track for a low $11-12 million opening.

Bad Robot’s World War II zombie movie Overlord looks to be  debuting that weekend with around $8-9 million at the box office.

On the big side, Halloween show win this weekend’s box-office with projections at leaset $70 million.
