Telenav has acquired Skobbler for $23.8 million in cash and stock.

Skobbler, which is based in Germany, runs a crowd-sourced OpenStreetMaps application. OpenStreetMaps uses data supplied by the public to help create the most accurate and up-to-date maps possible.

Telenav expects to add Skobbler and its development team to its own mapping and navigation products, including Scout. Scout often appears as a preloaded app on Sprint smartphones.
