Team Group has announced a new lineup of SSDs – the MP1 mSATAs. These SSDs are compact and intended to be used in mobile and ultraportable devices.

The SSDs will be based on the SATA3 (6 Gb/s) specification, and make good use of this bandwidth with the read and write speeds, which are said to reach up to 530 MB/s and 440 MB/s, respectively. Smaller models usually feature lower write speeds. These numbers might be nothing to write home about these days, but are certainly high enough for most everyday consumer purposes.

The units are rated with an MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) of one million hours, and will come with a three year warranty.

Team Group also indicated that the units support Intel’s Smart Response Technology, so using the units as cache SSDs is an option. That said, you’ll probably prefer to use them as boot drives, since that is still the best-performing option, and won’t be a problem with the capacities they’ll come in.

There is no clear word on when the units will be available or what they will cost. Though as yet having another contender in the ever-expanding mSATA SSD market, we can expect it to be priced relatively competitively. Units will be available in capacities of 64 GB, 128 GB, and lastly, 256 GB.
