Super Smash Bros 3DS Gets a Super Mario Level That’s All It’s Own

Masahiro Sakurai took to Miiverse once more to reveal a new Super Mario 3D Land stage for Super Smash Bros on Nintendo 3DS. It’s one of the more elaborate creations so far. In this colorful level, the map will advance through side-scrolling while people are fighting on it. It starts off on a regular green field with some blocks serving as platforms.

From there, it goes on into a valley, where you’ll need to watch your steps. Another range of colored platforms are moved by rock formations in their proximity nudging them and skewing their angle. Then, the Super Smash Bros 3DS level goes back to regular side-scrolling through another section with pitfalls. Here, the green environment will be tilting downhill.

After a few rails, the level will come to a few separated platforms again, before going off into a pipe. This pipe takes the stage back to the beginning of the loop. A full lap of the Super Mario 3D Land environment should take about 2 minutes to complete. It feels a little like the Rainbow Cruise stage from Melee and Brawl iterations.

It certainly looks like it will involve a lot of movement. Crowds are usually divided on the necessity of these types of levels. On one end, a good revolving level adds a lot of versatile variables to the fighting mechanisms. Then again, a lot of purists are more the type to enjoy a pure Final Destination sort of game, where there is nothing but the fight that counts.
