Sprint’s Samsung Conquer 4G Sports WiMAX at $99

Sprint put an end to rumors and launched the Samsung Conquer 4G. The Android 2.3 hardware is Sprint’s first WiMAX phone to start under the $100 mark when new and is an unusual mix of mid-range and budget hardware. It runs on a second-generation, 1GHz Snapdragon processor and has a front 1.3-megapixel camera, but it also cuts costs with a 3.2-inch rear camera and a 3.5-inch, 320×480 screen.

The design can still make a 3G or 4G hotspot. Just a 2GB microSD card is in the box, though it can take cards up to 32GB in size. Sprint layers its Sprint ID custom theming option on top but otherwise gives the phone a light touch, as most of the interface is closer to stock Android than Samsung’s TouchWiz.

Stores should start carrying the Conquer 4G on August 21, when it will sell for just under $100 on a contract.
