Sprint’s First Tri-Band LTE Modems Available July 19

Sprint today announced that the MiFi 500 LTE, Netgear Zing Mobile Hotspot, and the Netgear 341U USB Modem will go on sale beginning July 19.

All three devices were announced earlier this year, and are among the first set of devices from Sprint to support LTE in three separate spectrum bands. They can access LTE in the 800MHz, 1900MHz, and 2.5GHz bands. Right now, Sprint is primarily deploying LTE in the 1900MHz band, but it will begin to offer LTE in the 800MHz band later this year now that its iDEN network has been decommissioned. The 800MHz spectrum will offer better in-building coverage when compared to the 1900MHz spectrum. The 2.5GHz spectrum was owned by Clearwire but now belongs to Sprint after it closed its acquisition of Clearwire last week. Sprint says the 2.5GHz spectrum will eventually be used to offer high-speed service in densely populated regions.

The MiFi 500 and the Netgear Zing Mobile Hotspot cost $49.99, and the Netgear 341U USB Modem costs $19.99. All prices reflect a $50 mail-in rebate with a new service agreement.
