Sprint Announces Additional 4G LTE Locations

Sprint has announced that it has begun building its 4G LTE network in nine new additional cities, though the company declined to provide a timeframe for when those markets will have LTE service. That is to be expected based on past listings of LTE markets. Rather than say exactly when new cities can expect to be upgraded to its faster network, Sprint focuses on confirming where it has begun the actual process of building its infrastructure.

Sprint has already announced more than 125 cities where it expects to deliver LTE by the end of 2013, and the network says the following are among the planned markets:

  • Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.
  • Oakland/Fremont/Hayward, Calif.
  • Key West, Fla.
  • Fort Smith, Ark.
  • Michigan City/La Port, Ind.
  • Bloomington, Ind.
  • Eau Claire, Wis.
  • Ardmore, Okla.
  • McAllen/Edinburg/Mission, Texas

Sprint has so far delivered 4G LTE to 32 cities in the United States, and the company is simultaneously optimizing its 3G network as it visits sites to build its 4G infrastructure. It is still not clear how Sprint’s acquisition by SoftBank and its increased relationship with Clearwire will affect deployment, but the company remains confident it can reach its goals of its network expansion.
