‘Sorcery’ to Set a Apell on PlayStation 3 in May

The upcoming video game release Sorcery could be a magical experience for Harry Potter fans and action role-playing gamers alike.

A PlayStation Move title, Sorcery, due out May 22, turns the Move controller into a magic wand that you must learn to wield in fending off numerous waves of malicious creatures, demons and other enemies.

“You play Finn, who is a sorcerer’s apprentice and the cat is Erline, your master’s familiar,” says the game’s creative director and senior game designer Brian Upton during a recent demo. “Your master has gone off to town and Erline basically goads you into going into the Realm of the Dead to get alchemy ingredients. She thinks, ‘Oh, you think you are a sorcerer. Well, why don’t you go get this.’ ”

The chatty cat “expects you to fail miserably and comes along to laugh at you,” he says. “While you are there it turns out you are much better at sorcery than she thinks and you manage to get in over your head and the two of you happen to awaken a huge earth destroying evil.”

Sorcery, being developed by The Workshop and Sony Santa Monica, has been in the works for at least two years. It was among the games shown in the first demonstrations of the Sony PlayStation Move back in 2010.
