Sony Mobile’s U.S. chief, Ravi Nookala, said the company will not use Google’s Android Wear platform for wearables such as smartwatches and will instead use its own platform.

Speaking to CNET, Nookala said the company has invested time and money into developing its own Android-based wearable operating system “and we will continue in that direction.”

Sony released its second-generation smartwatch last year and recently unveiled the SmartBand fitness wearable.
