Sony May Have Stopped PSP Go Production

Sony may have stopped making its PSP Go portable console, according to an ex-employee’s report. A follow-up with Sony by EuroGamer offers a more ambiguous answer by Sony itself, with the electronics giant stating it will continue to meet demand. That demand has in the past been dwindling and has been followed a series of price drops for the device.

Sony Japan’s online store lists the PSP Go as out of stock, without a date when it will once again be available. Other than the price drops, Sony also recently introduced Essentials, a more affordable range of downloadable games for PSP Go users.

The company reiterated that its next  portable console, NGP, is due out before year’s end and may be the most likely cause for dropping the Go. The device has suffered relative to the regular PSP both for its usually higher price and its incompatibility with UMD games, locking it out of most older titles.
