Music and TV recognition service Shazam has launched its first-ever Mac app. While similar in design to the iOS client, the Mac app is able to listen constantly, generating an ongoing list of items it hears. Notifications give users the ability to jump quickly into pages for lyrics and/or buying the media in question.
The ongoing list can be accessed via a menu bar item which doubles as a control hub. Clicking on an item will open up a summary webpage, including not just lyrics and shopping content but things like videos and sharing options. Control-wise the dropdown menu lets users toggle always-on listening and whether Shazam will launch at startup.
The software is a free download, and requires OS X Mavericks or later.
