Shakedown Hawaii Developer Vblank Studios Targets 3DS Release

Shakedown HawaiiRetro City Rampage was one of the final WiiWare releases, and returned in an improved and hugely enjoyable form on 3DS with Retro City Rampage: DX. Brian Proviciano – the founder of Vblank Studios – spent a significant amount of time updating that title, and we were huge fans of its fast-paced top-down gameplay and its many, many pop-culture references.

Well, a follow-up has finally been confirmed, and it’s called Shakedown Hawaii. It’s set 30 years after Retro City Rampage as the ageing protagonist – ‘The Player’ – comes out of retirement to fight for his criminal empire. Those details are courtesy of the PlayStation Blog, which revealed the title for PS4 and Vita while announcing it’ll be playable at the ‘PlayStation Experience’ in early December.

There’s good news for Nintendo fans, however, as the 3DS is a target platform. Provinciano provided clarification on Nintendo platforms and he said the following:

“I’m currently targeting 3DS, but other Nintendo platforms are possible. I’m leaving the final decision until closer to launch since I’m not sure when the NX will come out. As the game is closer to completion and more is known about the NX, I’ll be able to better make the decision.”
