Seagate Have 12TB HDDs in the Field with Plans for 14TB, 16TB Models Over the Coming Year

During its Q2 2017 earning call, Seagate disclosed that it already has 12TB HDDs in the field and 14TB and 16TB models in the design phase. This re-forces that Seagate is on the path toward its goal of producing 20TB HDDs by 2020. These type of drives are also used by video production houses in their NAS and SAn systems.

High-capacity enterprise HDDs now account for 37% of its revenue as the consumer market is now only 24% of it revenue as consumer are moving over speedier and larger SSDs.

Enterprise customers are also moving over is also moving SSD technologies which caused the firm to halt further development of 15K RPM HDDs.

Seagate recently closed its Suzhou, China manufacturing plant while investing more money into other facilities as they move from six platters per drive to eight. The firm says these moves have  $300 million in savings per year to the bottom line.
