nas-pro-dynamic-family-270x270Seagate Technology has announced two new lines of Network Attached Storage devices, the Seagate NAS and NAS Pro. The NAS and NAS Pro lines are targeted at small businesses and self-employed professionals that may not necessarily have existing IT infrastructures.

“Storage is a must have for businesses of today regardless of their size or industry. So much of what businesses do is now stored in a digital format, but at the same time storage is an area that may not be top of mind for many small business professionals,” says Ramon Ray of SmallBizTechnology.

Seagate’s NAS line comes in two-bay and four-bay models that can be configured with 2TB to 10TB and 4TB to 20TB of storage, respectively. All Seagate NAS models pack Marvell ARM 1.2GHz processors and 512MB of RAM. NAS devices begin at $299.99 for the two-bay 2TB model and run up to $1,499.00 for the four-bay 20TB model.

For the small business with closer to 50 employees the NAS Pro line takes it up a notch thanks to the new Intel Dual-core 1.7GHz C2000 series processor and 2GB of RAM. The NAS Pro is offered in four-bay and six-bay models that range from 2TB at $399.99 to 30TB at $2,499.99. >> See: Network Attached Storage Buyer’s Guide

The NAS Pro supports multiple applications running simultaneously, making it well suited for highly cooperative work environments.

Both Seagate NAS and NAS Pro lines come with a small bundle of applications, the most useful likely being Seagate Antivirus and Seagate Surveillance Manager. Seagate Antivirus provides basic protections against viruses and malware and includes file scanning. The Surveillance Manager provides scheduled recording and remote viewing capabilities and is “compatible with thousands of models of IP cameras.” Other applications included: WordPress, BitTorrent Sync and Own Cloud, a cloud file storage platform.

The NAS and NAS Pro lines run on NAS OS 4, Seagate’s newest version storage operating system. Additionally, both lines provide access to a specialized private cloud service, Seagate Sdrive, expanding file access to smartphones and tablets.
