Ubisoft has confirmed that Wii U owners will be able to use their GamePad when playing the upcoming release of Watch Dogs on the system, specifically suggesting off-screen, or off-TV play, as well as an optional interactive map.
“Our focus was in re-creating the same experience as on the other platforms, while taking advantage of what the Wii U has to offer,” Ubisoft Bucharest producer Florin Sanda told Nintendo World Report. Sanda went on to mention that other options were dismissed after play testing around with the device, saying that some things “just didn’t work”.
Watch Dogs released on the other major consoles in May, but the Wii U version of the game has been held back and, at one point, thought to be cancelled all together. It’s currently slated for November 18 release on the Wii U, which doesn’t exactly look to fare well with titles like Far Cry 4 and LittleBigPlanet 3 making their debuts on other consoles, and of course Smash Bros. on the Wii U only days after launch.
