When hits shelves in April, all eyes will be on Brian Michael Bendis’ DC Comics debut. The writer’s first Superman story will not only set the tone for his plans for the Man of Steel moving forward; it will be illustrated by none other than DC co-publisher and comic book legend Jim Lee.

But Bendis and Lee are far from the only major talent working on the giant-sized anniversary issue. The likes of Paul Dini, Scott Snyder, José Luis García-López, Jerry Ordway and more will all have stories in the special issie. And today, DC Comics has released one of them, in its entirety.

“Of Tomorrow,” Tom King, Clay Mann and Jordie Bellaire’s Action #1000 entry, has been made available to read on DC’s site.

The story, which takes place billions of years in the far future, finds Clark visiting Ma and Pa Kent’s grave one last time before Earth’s final destruction. While thousands of years have passed, some things remain the same, including Superman’s dedication to his family.

“The one-thousandth issue of ACTION COMICS is an incredible milestone in pop culture and a testament to the vision of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster,” DC publisher Dan DiDio said in a statement. “Without this book, along with Siegel and Shuster’s fertile imaginations and boundless creativity, the superhero’s place in literature may have been wildly different, if not altogether nonexistent.”

The oversized Action Comics #1000 arrives in stores April 18, 2018.
