Production Has Started On The Reboot Of Jay And Silent Bob

Kevin Smith, aka Silent Bob, has announced that he’s in the early stages of development with the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

Revealed via Twitter, Smith says a “pre-pre-production” meeting for the film was held on the first day of the year. He followed this up by tweeting: “HAPPY NEW YEAR! May you accomplish all the things you dream of doing (unless you dream of hurting people)! 2018 was the year that almost killed me, but 2019 will be the year of the REBOOT!

The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot was announced in early 2017, at which time Smith revealed he had begun a first-draft script. Though the tentative title might suggest as much, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot doesn’t appear to be a reboot of the duo that has appeared in various Kevin Smith films, but rather the plot follows the two titular characters as they try to stop Hollywood from rebooting the Bluntman and Chronic film featured in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

“It’s a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces,” said Smith. No release window has been given for the film.

The characters Jay and Silent Bob made their debut in Smith’s first low-budget film, Clerks, and went on to appear in several of his other films, including Mallrats, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
