Porsche Updates Cayenne Hybrid, Adds More Electric Range

Porsche last week unveiled a faster, more powerful version of the Cayenne E-Hybrid crossover. The redesigned vehicle has quicker acceleration, a higher top speed and increased electric-only range. Porsche said the plug-in hybrid can go 44 kilometers, or about 27 miles, on a full charge in electric mode, nearly double the stated 14-mile range of the current Cayenne S E-Hybrid.

It starts at $80,050, including shipping, which is the same as the current model.

The latest E-Hybrid, scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in early 2019, includes the third new hybrid powertrain from Porsche since 2017, the company said. It combines a 3-liter mono-turbo V-6 engine and an electric motor to create 455 hp, 40 more than the outgoing model, and 516 pound-feet of torque.

It can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds — 0.7 seconds faster than the previous generation — and boasts a top track speed of 157 mph.

Along with the launch of the 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid, Porsche will update the broader Cayenne model line with several new features. They include massaging seats, a heated windshield, a head-up display and, for the first time in any Porsche, 22-inch wheels.
