Pokken TournamentThe ‘special’ Pokemon announcement that has been teased for a week now has been revealed to be Pokken Tournament. The announcement was made on the Japanese show NicoNico by the President of the Pokemon Company himself, Tsunekazu Ishihara

The Wii U Pokemon game was teased last year during a history of Pokemon games event with fans waiting to see if this would be a Pokemon Stadium for the Wii U. They showed the Poke Fighters announcement through a kind of ‘making of’ trailer that had the creators of the Pokemon franchise speak about different Japanese fighting games like Tekken and Soul Calibur.

The Pokemon fighting game, that is similar in graphics to the Pokemon Stadium games, will see your favorite fighting(?) Pokes duke it out in a massive battle. The battle sequences seem very similar to the Dragonball Z games but from the ‘making of trailer’ again, Tekken and Soul Calibur were big influences. It has been announced that this game will come to arcades first and then possibly consoles later.

So far the only confirmed fighters are Lucario, Machamp and Blaziken — which was shown during last year’s trailer. It is also confirmed that the Pokemon will either have transformation sequences as one of their moves or a ‘finishing’ move that can be employed. Lucario can transform into his mega form, and presumably Blaziken will be able to do the same.
