Pokemon Bank Shuttered in Japan Due to Server Issues

Pokemon Bank Taken DownFollowing its launch on Dec. 25, Nintendo has taken the Pokemon Bank cloud storage app offline and removed it from the eShop in Japan following a strain on company servers, according to a notice on Nintendo of Japan’s website.

Pokemon Bank was identified as the cause of a server crush that saw problems across Nintendo’s online servers affecting both its 3DS and Wii U eShops. The notice states the problems are occurring across both platforms due to the recent linking of 3DS and Wii U online services, including Miiverse, through the Nintendo Network ID system.

As a result, Pokemon Bank has been removed from the eShop and Nintendo has not announced when the app will once again be available. The free 30-day trial period for new Pokemon Bank users will restart once the application is put back online.

Pokemon Bank is slated to launch in North America and Europe on Dec. 27. Serebiireports that the territories’ eShops currently list the app with a “TBD” (“To Be Decided”) release date. At the time of writing, Nintendo’s eShops are still currently experiencing difficulties.
