Just as things are cooling down from the big Skylake launch, Origin PC is heating things up by packing desktop-class CPUs into two of its notebooks, and overclocking them. This means Core i5-6600K and Core i7-6700K, which have made their way into the Origin PC EON15-X and EON17-X notebooks.

These 15- and 17-inch notebooks are meant to be desktop replacement devices, and can therefore come packed with more hardware than the average gaming PC contains. Of course, you’ll be able to configure them with more tam specs, but the hardware that they will pack can go as high as the aforementioned CPUs, paired with an Nvidia GTX 980M graphics card with an 8 GB frame buffer. To top off the gaming part of the experience, the displays will also support Nvidia G-Sync technology, which eliminates stuttering and tearing in games.

Origin PC has been outfitting its notebooks with desktop CPUs for several years, and will probably continue to do so. The benefit of using desktop CPUs is that they have much higher power limits and offer more performance, but the catch is that you still have to cool them to be able to leverage that benefit. Therefore, don’t be surprised that these notebooks are a little more sizable than what you’re probably used to.

On the memory front, you’ll be able to configure the notebooks to pack up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory, and storage can be handled by PCI-Express-capable M.2 SSDs next to 4 TB of hard drive space.

The physical build of the laptops is primarily plastic, with an option to treat the back of the screen with automotive-quality paint. The keyboards on the units will feature RGB lighting — but not per-key. Instead, the lighting on the SteelSeries keyboard is split up into three zones.

Origin PC is also going along with the adoption of the new USB standards, and has fitted these notebooks with a USB Type-C connector capable of Thunderbolt 3 Alt Mode.

“Gone are the days where laptop performance lagged behind the performance of a desktop. Origin PC always prides itself on being on the cutting edge, and we’re thrilled to offer the first overclocked Intel 6th generation Skylake processor on our new EON17-X and EON15-X laptops,” said Kevin Wasielewski, CEO/Co-Founder of Origin PC.
