OCZ has unveiled the Vertex 4 SATA III SSD as its fastest to date. The 2.5-inch drive reaches sequential speeds of up to 535MBps through an Indilinx Everest 2 controller that reportedly helps it outperform predecessors by a factor of four. It’s also much more durable, with cycle erase specs that are outside of the measurable range, according to the creator.

Buyers will have the option of 128 through to 512GB capacities. A 3.5-inch bay mounting kit is included with the drive for desktop owners. The max random performance is up to 120,000 IOPS, though dealing with data that can’t be compressed slows that to 95,000 random read IOPS and 85,000 random write IOPS.

That Indilinx Everest 2 sports a dual-core 400MHz clock and gets an onboard error correction code (ECC) engine. It can perform dynamic wear-leveling and has automatic encryption, along with the company’s Ndurance 2.0 NAND flash management feature.

The drives are said to be available very soon, though prices were not disclosed.
