Nokia Will Hold a Special Event in Times Square for Lumia 900

Microsoft tweeted late Monday that Nokia will be holding a special event in New York City to formally launch the Lumia 900. The gathering, at Times Square on April 6 at 7PM, will have a “special guest” performing, Nokia’s marketing copy said. It didn’t name the guest, although Canadian electronic musician Deadmau5 oversaw a similar event in London for the Lumia 800.

The effort comes two days before the formal launch and emphasizes the importance of the Lumia 900 for AT&T, Microsoft, and Nokia alike. AT&T has claimed that the Windows Phone would have a larger launch than the iPhone, with several weeks of heavy promotion and a treatment normally reserved for Apple. The pricing for the phone itself, which costs $100 on contract and less at some retailers, is also part of the strategy as it makes the Lumia 900 one of the most affordable LTE phones to date.
