Nintendo Spotlights New Indie Game Releases for Wii U

don't starveAt Nintendo’s eShop Showcase, Nintendo recently highlighted the variety of indie games coming to the eShop this year. In addition to sharing five trailers for some of its most promising Wii U eShop games Nintendo also shared release date information for the games on both the Wii U and 3DS eShops.

Read on for some information about the five indies Nintendo featured, including Don’t Starve: Giant Edition, Runbow, Swords & Soliders II, Affordable Space Adventures, and Never Alone. The release date information for both eShops is included.

Don’t Starve: Giant Edition – Spring 2015

Don’t Starve: Giant Edition by Klei Entertainment will be arriving on the eShop sometime this Spring. The Giant Edition of the popular permadeath survival game features off-TV Gameplay and a new easy-to-access map. The Reign of the Giants DLC will be available at the launch of the Wii U version of the game.

Runbow – Q3 2015

Developed by 13AM Games, Runbow is a party game for up to 9 players. In addition to the main Run mode, a platforming challenge, the game also features six additional modes including an arena mode where players fight each other in a chaotic free-for-all, the Colourmaster mode where one player controls the colors and obstacles in the level, and a 30 minute endurance test called the Bowhemoth. The game promises to have hundreds of challenges, many achievements to shoot for, and tons of unlockable costumes for your runners.

Swords & Soldiers II – May 2015

Swords & Soldiers II is a sequel to the popular 2D Strategy game that arrived on WiiWare in 2009. The Vikings, including their leader Redbeard, return from the original game and are challenging new factions including a demonic army. Players need to buy units, cast spells, and build structures to conquer the opposition on a 2D plane.

Affordable Space Adventures – April 9 2015

Affordable Space Adventures tasks you to pilot a space ship in dangerous, 2.5D alien environments. You need to use the Gamepad to control all the systems of the ship to carefully avoid all of the hazards. The game features two difficulty levels, family friendly or extremely complex, and if you feel the challenge isn’t enough you can form a team of three to split up all of the work, which requires intense coordination.

Never Alone – June 2015

Never Alone tells the story of Nuna and Fox as they journey to save their people from a mysterious eternal blizzard. Never Alone is a puzzle platformer and features co-op play. In addition to the 30 minutes of documentary footage that was included in the original game, the Wii U version features new Contextual Insights that appear on the Gamepad as well as Off-TV Play and 40 unlockable Miiverse Stamps.
