Nintendo Cuts the Price of the Wii with New $150 Bundle

Nintendo on Wednesday geared up for its new console by cutting the price of the Wii. The system is now dropping from $200 to $150 and will come in a bundle that replaces Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort with Mario Kart Wii and the Wii Wheel cradle for the remote. The console maker is also finally discounting games and is dropping games such as Animal Crossing, Twilight Princess, and the now unbundled Wii Sports down to $20.

Both the new Wii pack and the cheaper games will be ready May 15. A new black version of the Wii Wheel is due to ship for $10.

TV console discounts are rare for Nintendo in recent years. The new price drop is just the second for the system since it went on sale in 2006. Its slash to $150 is both a typical move to keep up interest ahead of a more expensive replacement as well as to make up for rapidly dropping profit now that Wii sales are dropping. Microsoft has been more and more frequently selling more Xbox 360s despite a higher price.
